Edinburgh, Scotland (Betting Express) - Gary Smith signed a one-year contract extension with Hibernian on Tuesday that will keep the defender with the club until the summer of 2006.

"Gary brings a large amount of experience, composure and of course professionalism to the squad," said Hibernian manager Tony Mowbray. "Although he is 34, Gary works hard at his fitness levels, looks after himself well and is a good role model for the young players at the club just now."

Smith has made 14 appearances this season for Hibernian, and has been placed back in the starting lineup since turn of the calendar.

Through 29 games this season in the Scottish Premier League, Hibernian sits in fourth place with 47 points.
