Philadelphia, PA (Betting Express) - Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb had the cast removed from his broken ankle Monday, but is still expected to be out for several more weeks.
"His status is improving but his foot is still in a non-weight bearing stage and he is still walking with crutches," a statement from the Eagles said. "He will resume his rehabilitation program in Philadelphia tomorrow [Tuesday]. As the team has stated, the normal healing time for an injury of this kind is 6-8 weeks from the time of the injury."
McNabb suffered a non-displaced fracture of the fibula against Arizona in Week 11, and decided against surgery to allow the injury to heal on its own.
McNabb is hoping to return this season, but there are no guarantees.
McNabb suffered the injury on the third play of the game against the Cardinals, but the Eagles felt that he had a sprain instead of a fracture. The All-Pro quarterback stayed in the game, and completed 20-of-25 passes for 255 yards with four touchdown passes, leading the Eagles to a 38-14 victory.
In Week 12, Koy Detmer lead the Eagles to a 38-17 victory on the road against San Francisco in a Monday night game. However, Detmer suffered a dislocated left elbow and was replaced by A.J. Feeley.
With Feeley under center in his first NFL start two weeks ago, the Eagles' defense led the charge in a 10-3 victory over St. Louis. Feeley also Eagles' defense led the charge in a 10-3 victory over St. Louis. Feeley also helped the Eagles win at Seattle on Sunday.
McNabb, has rushed for 460 yards and six touchdowns while completing 211- of-361 passes for 2,289 yards, with 17 TDs and six interceptions this season.
Earlier this year, McNabb signed a new 12-year contract worth about $115 million, which made him the highest-paid player in NFL history. McNabb also got a $20.5 million signing bonus. The new contract makes McNabb an Eagle through the 2013 season.
