Washington, DC (Betting Express) - Washington Redskins officials said they expect defensive coordinator Marvin Lewis not to be with the team next season, and he will interview for the head coaching vacancy at Michigan State this week, according to a published report. The Washington Post reported on Monday that Lewis will meet with MSU officials as soon as this week. Lewis declined to comment as he left FedEx Field following the Redskins' 27-21 loss to the New York Giants on Sunday. However, the Detroit News countered the Post by reporting on Monday that Spartans' athletic director Ron Mason said the school has not yet made any offer to Lewis. Mason denied that MSU was on the verge of naming a coach amid reports that Lewis is in the process of being offered or accepting the job as early as Monday. Mason did confirm with the News that Lewis is a candidate for the position, but added that "at least eight to 10 guys are on the list." The Spartans fired head coach Bobby Williams more than a month ago, and finished their season with a 4-8 record, including a 2-6 mark in the Big Ten. Since taking control of the Baltimore Ravens defense in 1996, Lewis has established himself as one the NFL's top coordinators. That reputation helped to net him a three-year deal worth at least $2.7 million from the Redskins this past offseason. The deal, which made Lewis the highest paid assistant coach in the NFL, included incentives that could push the total package to about $3.6 million. In the 2000 season, Lewis guided a Baltimore defense that set records for fewest points allowed in a 16-game season (165) while leading the Ravens to a Super Bowl title.
