Seattle, WA (Betting Express) - The Seattle Seahawks announced Friday that Bob Whitsitt, the president of football operations, has been relieved of his duties. The news follows confirmation earlier this week that head coach Mike Holmgren will remain with the club. "We are dedicated to winning and that means continuing to build a premier NFL organization with the highest standards of leadership and execution," said team owner Paul G. Allen. "I look forward to bringing in a new executive who will play a central role in making our football operation more cohesive, and making our overall organization more successful. At this point, the position will benefit most from an infusion of fresh experience and perspective, as well as renewed energy and focus." Whitsitt just completed his eighth season as president of the Seahawks and second with a concentration on the football operations aspect of the organization. He was instrumental in the development of Qwest Field since 1996 and played a key role in the hiring of Holmgren as the franchise's sixth head coach in 1999. Whitsitt was an intern for the Indiana Pacers and was later promoted to assistant general manager in 1981. In 1982, he joined the Kansas City Kings as vice president of marketing. He eventually moved with the team to Sacramento. He then joined the Seattle SuperSonics as president in 1986 at the age of 30, becoming the youngest president in the NBA. He worked with the Sonics for eight years and was NBA Executive of the Year in 1994. That year, he came on board with the Trail Blazers' organization. In 2003, Whitsitt resigned from his position as president and general manager with Portland.
