Denver, CO (Betting Express) - The Colorado Rapids added John Murphy to their coaching staff as an assistant. Murphy will team with Steve Trittschuch to work under new head coach Fernando Clavijo, who replaced Tim Hankinson last month. Murphy also worked under Clavijo at New England. "I've known John for many years now, and the experience that he has gained during his coaching career at the MLS, A-League and collegiate level made him a no brainier for the first assistant coach position," Clavijo said. "With Murphy and Steve I know I've surrounded myself with a coaching staff that shares my vision of the game and that will help transmit to the players so that they can perform at their highest level." Murphy spent four seasons (2000-03) with the Revolution as an assistant coach and goalkeeper coach. The veteran coach worked last season for Columbus, where he helped the Crew win the Eastern Conference title.
