Chicago, IL (Betting Express) - Real Salt Lake continued to fill out its roster Thursday when they acquired defender Evan Whitfield and forward Dipsy Selolwane from the Chicago Fire. Chicago received a third-round selection in the 2005 MLS SuperDraft and a second-round pick in 2006 in exchange for the duo. "These two MLS veterans bring depth and experience to the Real Salt Lake roster," Real Salt Lake general manager Steve Pastorino said. "Selolwane is a proven finisher who has scored goals at every level. Whitfield is a player who can play several positions. His speed and overlapping runs will bolster our right side." Whitfield was drafted by the Fire with the 11th-overall pick in the 1999 MLS College Draft. He has appeared in 103 career games for the Fire, scoring three goals and recording 12 assists. The 27-year-old Whitfield played in 23 matches (19 starts) this season for Chicago. He also helped the Fire capture their third U.S. Open Cup with a 1-0 victory over MetroStars. Whitfield set up Damani Ralph for the only goal of the contest. Selolwane was drafted by the Fire with the 36th-overall pick in the 2002 draft. The Botswana international scored three goals in 25 matches for Chicago. "This is a difficult, but necessary trade to make," Fire general manager Peter Wilt said. "Dipsy has shown his abilities when he's been able to get playing time, but the Fire are crowded up front and he was using a valuable senior international slot." Chicago will now enter the 2005 MLS SuperDraft with two of its four senior international slots open.
