San Francisco, CA (Betting Express) - The San Francisco Giants have reportedly come to terms on a three-year, $21 million contract with free agent closer Armando Benitez. The San Francisco Chronicle reported the tentative agreement and noted the deal could be announced as early as today if Benitez passes a physical. The 32-year-old Benitez collected a career-high and Florida Marlins record 47 saves in 51 chances last season, going 2-2 with a 1.29 ERA. Opponents hit .152 against him. The righthander's 47 saves were also tied with St. Louis' Jason Isringhausen for the most in the National League. Benitez allowed only a .139 batting average over his last 32 appearances and five runs over his final 34 2/3 innings. Benitez has also pitched for Baltimore, the Mets, Seattle and the Yankees and has 244 saves with a 2.85 ERA during his career, which spans back to 1994. Last week, Benitez reportedly turned down an offer to remain with the Marlins. That deal was reportedly for one year at $5 million and included a $6 million option for 2006 with a $1 million buyout. Matt Herges and Dustin Hermanson split the closing duties last season for the Giants. Herges had 23 saves and Hermanson compiled 17 in that role. Hermanson is a free agent.
