Bronx, NY (Betting Express) - New York Yankees outfielder Gary Sheffield will have arthroscopic surgery Tuesday on his ailing left shoulder. Sheffield's surgery will be performed by noted sports surgeon Dr. James Andrews. The 36-year-old played this past season through pain that forced him to catch fly balls below his shoulder. He also said the shoulder didn't hurt as much when he batted and made contact, but was painful when he swung and missed. Despite the pain, Sheffield hit .290 with 36 home runs and 121 runs batted in to earn a Silver Slugger award and finish second in AL MVP voting. Sheffield was originally diagnosed with bursitis in his left shoulder in late June and received a pair of cortisone shots during the summer that failed to alleviate the pain.
