Wolfsburg's road woes continue

Nurnberg, Germany (Betting Express) - Bundesliga leaders Wolfsburg lost its third straight road game Saturday.

Wolfsburg did not just lose to Nurnberg, they were embarrassed and blown out of the Frankenstadion after a Marek Mintal hat trick during a 4-0 Nurnberg win. The win allowed Wolfgang Wolf, the current coach of Nurnberg, to defeat his former team in decisive fashion.

Mintal went to work right away and scored his first goal of the match in the opening minute of play. Things just continued to get worse for Wolfsburg after that when the talented Andres D'Alessandro was sent off just several minutes later. That opened the door for Nurnberg to pour it on -- which they did.

Mintal later sandwiched strikes in the 28th and 49th minutes around a goal from Markus Schroth.

Wolfsburg still remains in the Bundesliga lead, at least for one more day. Red-hot Schalke, however, has a chance to move even on points with the current leaders when they travel to Hamburg Sunday.

Bayern Munich inched closer to the top of the table Saturday with a 3-0 win over Hannover. Claudio Pizarro, Roy Makaay and Paolo Guerrero scored for Bayern, which moved into second place and within a point of Wolfsburg.

Pizarro scored his third goal of the season early in the match when he connected with a cross from Makaay. Despite playing without defenders Lucio, Thomas Linke, Andi Gorlitz and Willy Sagnol due to injuries and suspension, Bayern's defense did well to keep Hannover off the scoreboard.

Makaay and Guerrero then put the game out of reach with strikes late in the second half. Guerrero's goal was his first Bundesliga strike. The 20-year-old was the leading scorer for the Bayern reserves last season.

Dick Advocaat saw his new club, Monchengladbach, earn a point on the road Saturday when they finished tied at 1-1 with Mainz. Advocaat was hired this week to replace Holger Fach. Horst Koppel served as the interim coach during Monchengladbach's win over Bayern Munich last weekend. Monchengladbach now stands 13th in the table with 13 points after 12 matches.

Borussia Dortmund was unable to get its third straight win when they suffered a 1-0 setback at Arminia Bielefeld. Delron Buckley continued to impress for Bielefeld, scoring the only goal of the match. Buckley now has eight goals this season, one behind Mintal for the league lead.

Bayer Leverkusen rebounded from a loss to Dortmund last weekend with a convincing 4-1 triumph over Freiburg. Leverkusen was able to overcome an early goal by Freiburg's Ismael Coulibaly at the Bay Arena.

Newcomers Paul Freier, Jacek Krzynowek and Andrej Voronin did all the scoring for Leverkusen in the come-from-behind victory. All three joined the club this summer. Freier scored twice and Krzynowek and Voronin each found the back of the net once in the win.

In other Bundesliga action, defending champion Werder Bremen allowed a late goal to Hertha and finished in a 1-1 draw in Berlin. Kaiserslautern and Bochum also ended tied at 1-1.
