Concord, NC (Betting Express) - NASCAR will replace the rear wing with the spoiler on the current Sprint Cup Series cars, beginning with next week's race at Martinsville Speedway.

During a news conference held on Wednesday at Charlotte Motor Speedway, NASCAR's vice president of competition Robin Pemberton confirmed the change from the wing to the spoiler will take place at Martinsville.

"[Monday] morning, the 83 spoilers went out the door to teams," Pemberton said. "Things are going well, so we're looking forward to Martinsville."

On Tuesday, 25 Sprint Cup teams participated in a one-day test session at Talladega Superspeedway to determine the potential size of carburetor restrictor-plate openings and familiarize drivers with the new spoiler on the car.

The wing has been a fixture of the current car -- also known as the Car of Tomorrow (COT) -- since its debut three years ago at Bristol, where the series runs later this week.

Teams had raised concerns about the wing, since it has reduced downforce on the cars. The spoiler was used on the previous cars.

"I think that we've had some really good tests over the winter time as it relates to spoiler implementation," Pemberton said. "The setup that we are going to come back with in regards to the spoiler, many of the teams already have a month under their belts with testing at various places around the country. They've got some experience, and they are not coming in totally blind. I think we're going to see what we got in front of us for the rest of the year as it relates to the spoiler."
