St. Petersburg, FL (Betting Express) - The Tampa Bay Rays have signed six players to minor league contracts with invitations to spring training, including catcher Michel Hernandez, pitcher Randy Choate and infielder Ray Olmedo. Hernandez was with the Rays through their stunning run to the World Series last season, a member of the postseason roster for all three rounds. He did not see action during the playoffs after appearing in five games during the regular season following his August 31 acquisition from Pittsburgh. Choate is a veteran of eight major league seasons with the New York Yankees and Arizona Diamondbacks. The Tampa resident has a career record of 5-7 with a 4.64 earned run average in 196 big league outings. He spent last year with Triple-A Nashville in the Milwaukee organization. Olmedo has spent parts of five big league seasons with Cincinnati and Toronto. He played last season in Washington's organization with Triple-A Columbus. Pitcher Julio DePaula and outfielders Jon Weber and Ray Sadler also received minor league deals.
