New York, NY (Betting Express) - Free agent pitcher Andy Pettitte has reportedly turned down a one-year offer to return to the New York Yankees.

The New York Times cited a person with knowledge of the negotiations as saying Pettitte rejected the $10 million offer to rejoin the Yankees for the 2009 season.

Pettitte earned $16 million last season when he posted a record of 14-14 with a 4.54 earned run average and made 33 starts despite pitching through shoulder pain. It was the first non-winning season of his 14-year career.

The 36-year-old veteran lefty rejoined the Yankees in 2007 after spending three seasons with Houston. He pitched the first nine years of his career with New York, helping the Yankees to four World Series titles, and owns a career record of 215-127 with a 3.89 ERA.
