(Betting Express) - The San Jose Sharks begin their tour of western Canada tonight, as they visit the
Calgary Flames and Pengrowth Saddledome.
The Sharks hit the road after a brief stop at home, where they posted a 5-3 victory over the New York Islanders on Saturday. The contest in San Jose had followed a 1-0-2 road trip. In fact, though they have lost four of their last five on the road, the Sharks still managed points in four of those games (1-1-3) and are 10-4-3 as the road club this season.
In Saturday's home win, Mike Grier scored twice and Jonathan Cheechoo had three assists to help the Sharks extended their home points streak to 30 games. San Jose is 19-0-2 as the host this year and 27-0-3 at home dating back to last season.
Patrick Marleau, Dan Boyle and Ryane Clowe each lit the lamp for San Jose. Evgeni Nabokov made 21 saves in the win and Joe Thornton had a pair of assists, giving him a goal and 10 assists over a six-game point streak.
Thornton is second in the NHL in assists with 37 and has four goals and 16 helpers in 20 career games versus the Flames. Nabokov is 10-8-2 with two ties and a 2.51 goals against average lifetime versus Calgary.
The Sharks, who lead the Pacific Division by 18 points and lead the NHL with 63 points, will visit Edmonton on Friday before a stop in Vancouver the following day.
The Flames are on a roll of their own, as they took a five-game winning streak into Sunday's test versus the Chicago Blackhawks. However, they failed to match their season-high for consecutive wins, falling 5-2 in the Windy City.
Todd Bertuzzi and Daymond Langkow scored for the Flames, who also had a 10- game points streak snapped (7-0-3) and suffered their first regulation loss since December 9 versus Montreal.
Miikka Kiprusoff allowed four goals on 28 shots before being pulled after the second period in taking the loss, only Calgary's third in its last 10 road games. Curtis McElhinney stopped all seven shots he faced in the third.
Kiprusoff is 8-6-1 with a 2.98 GAA in his career against San Jose.
The Flames lead the Northwest Division by three points over the Canucks and begin a three-game homestand tonight. Calgary has won four straight as the host and is 13-4-3 at Pengrowth Saddledome this season.
San Jose notched a 6-1 home win over Calgary on November 13 to halt a three- game series losing streak. The Sharks are just 2-7 with a tie in their last 10 trips to Calgary.
