(Betting Express) - The scorching Washington Capitals will aim for a seventh consecutive victory when they host the Philadelphia Flyers tonight at Verizon Center.

The Capitals have won six straight games, but their last setback came in Philadelphia on December 20 when the Flyers posted a 7-1 blowout victory. That was the first meeting between the clubs since Philadelphia posted an overtime win on the road in Game 7 of last year's opening-round playoff series.

Philadelphia has taken two of three and three of the last five regular-season meetings with the Capitals. The Flyers have won two straight in D.C., but the Caps have still come out on top in four of the last seven matchups on their home ice.

In addition to winning six in a row, the Caps have won 11 of their last 12 games overall and eight straight on home ice. Washington is 17-1-1 as the host this season and its last loss in D.C. came on December 2 versus Florida.

Washington earned its latest triumph Saturday in a close victory over the visiting New York Rangers. Alex Ovechkin's second-period short-handed tally was the difference, as the Capitals nipped the Blueshirts, 2-1, at Verizon Center.

Mike Green also lit the lamp for the Capitals and Jose Theodore made 21 saves for his 13th win of the season.

Ovechkin has recorded a goal in two straight games and comes into tonight's test with 27 goals, tying him with Philadelphia's Jeff Carter for the league lead. The Russian superstar is also second in the NHL with 53 points, trailing only Pittsburgh's Evgeni Malkin.

The Flyers are capping a season-high six-game road trip tonight and are 2-2-1 on the swing so far.

Philly had won two straight before dropping a shootout decision in Los Angeles on Saturday. Jonathan Quick recorded 31 saves and stopped both Flyers tries in the shootout, as the Kings skated away with the 2-1 decision at Staples Center.

Scott Hartnell tallied Philadelphia's lone goal, and Antero Niittymaki made 30 saves in defeat. With the point, the Flyers briefly moved past the New York Rangers for first place in the Atlantic Division with 50 points. However, New York beat Pittsburgh on Monday to move one point ahead of the Flyers.

The Flyers, who are 9-6-5 as the visiting team this season, will begin a three- game homestand Thursday against Minnesota.
