Nashport, OH (Betting Express) - Bob Sowards closed with a two-under 70 on Sunday to win the 37th PGA Club Professional Championship. Sowards ended the event at 12-under-par 276, one shot clear of Mike Small.
The real battle at Longaberger Golf Club came down to a four-man playoff to secure the final three spots in this year's PGA Championship at Whistling Straits in Kohler, Wisconsin.
Frank Bensel, Bob Boyd, Bruce Smith and Zane Zwemke ended the event at one- over-par 289 in a tie for 23rd place, with the top-25 gaining spots in the PGA Championship.
Bensel easily earned his spot with a birdie on the par-five 10th, which served as the playoff hole. Zwemke and Smith posted pars to grab the final two spots as Boyd stumbled to a bogey.
"It won't sink in until probably tonight," said Zwemke of playing in the PGA. "It still hasn't hit me yet."
All three players are headed to their first PGA Championship.
"I'm just absolutely thrilled," said Bensel. "I'm really looking forward to playing in the PGA."
Chip Sullivan came in third place by himself at eight-under-par 280, while Jeff Coston, Tim Fleming and Ron Philo Jr. ended one stroke behind him at minus-seven.
Alan Schulte notched his second straight 69 to end alone in seventh place at six-under-par 282. Steve Schneiter came in at minus-five, while Quinn Griffing and Robert Thompson shared ninth place at four-under-par 284.
Roy Biancalana, Mark Evenson, Jeffrey Lankford, Dave Tentis and Craig Thomas ended in a logjam in 11th place at two-under-par 287.
The final seven players earning a spot in this year's PGA Championship were Sean English (287) and Mike Baker Jr., Bill Britton, Cary Hungate, Mike Northern, J.R. Roth and Mike Schuchart, who all came in at even-par 288.
