Winston-Salem, NC (Betting Express) - The triumvirate of Jeff Teague, James Johnson and Chas McFarland combined for 75 points in No. 20 Wake Forest's 120-88 victory over UNC-Wilmington in an in-state mismatch.

Teague posted a career-high 31 points, Johnson netted 25, and McFarland contributed 19 for the Demon Deacons (2-0), who opened their season with a blowout win over NC Central and finish off a three-game homestand against Winston-Salem State on Monday. Johnson and McFarland also grabbed nine and eight rebounds, respectively, in the win.

Al-Farouq Aminu posted a solid all-around effort with 11 points, 12 rebounds and five assists for the victors.

Johnny Wolf paced the Seahawks (2-1) with 24 points, and Dominique Lacy recorded a double-double with 20 points and 11 rebounds. UNCW shot a respectable 47.6 percent from the field but committed 24 turnovers and were outrebounded by a 52-30 margin.

A Demon Deacon run of 14 straight points midway through the first half helped build a 32-12 lead for the hosts.

Wake Forest scored 40 points in the paint, compared to UNCW's 12, and took a 61-44 advantage into the locker room.

"We want to throw it inside," Wake Forest head coach Dino Gaudio said. "For the most part we are becoming more disciplined in the number of threes we are shooting. We have to let those big guys eat, we got to throw them the ball."

The lead dwindled in part to Wake's inability to hit the outside shot and Wolf's three-pointer made it a 69-60 game less than five minutes into the second half.

After a timeout, though, Johnson recorded a layup after an offensive rebound to spark an 11-4 run for an 80-64 lead that was not seriously challenged the rest of the way.

Three consecutive fastbreak layups, the last by McFarland, made it a 92-68 tilt with 9 1/2 minutes remaining, and Wake cruised from there.

"We played a very, very good team tonight," UNC-Wilmington head coach Benny Moss said. "I know they're young, but they're talented and they're big. Dino's doing a tremendous job. He's got them playing hard. He's got them defending. He's got them executing and playing in transition. They were just too much for us to handle tonight. I was proud of our guys because we're also young, but we're kind of beat up on our front line."

Game Notes

UNCW, which beat Appalachian State and Troy to begin the season, is next in action Sunday at Kent State...The Deacons have won all 11 meetings against the Seahawks...Wake's Tony Woods and the Seahawks' Daryl Felder and Jerel Stephenson each had 11 points in the game.
