Allen Park, MI (Betting Express) - The Detroit Lions Friday released tight end Mikhael Ricks. The 6'5", 252-pounder finished second on the team in receiving last season with 37 catches for 434 yards and two touchdowns. He was originally signed by the Lions prior to the 2002 season and had 27 receptions for 339 yards and three touchdowns in his first year with the club. Ricks led NFL tight ends with a 12.6 yards-per-catch average in '02, leading to his selection as an alternate in the Pro Bowl. During his five-year NFL career, Ricks has played in 84 games (41 starts) and has 153 receptions for 1,982 yards and eight touchdowns. He has also played for Kansas City and San Diego. Ricks was drafted out of Stephen F. Austin by the Chargers in the second round (59th overall) of the 1998 NFL draft.
