Starkville, MS (Betting Express) - Mississippi State Friday admitted to secondary rules violations, but denied that it took any part in serious rules violations within its football program. The NCAA alleged in a letter sent to the school on December 2, that the football team provided cash, cars and perks such as paying a home mortgage for a recruit's family. The school released a 188-page response addressing the allegations and said that they were based on "shaky testimony." Mississippi State did acknowledge that former assistant coach Jerry Fremin knew of the secondary rules violations. But Fremin stated that former head coach Jackie Sherrill -- who retired after last season -- did not violate any NCAA ethical conduct rules. Secondary violations the school admitted to included such things as a booster arranging part-time jobs for players and the university paying three recruits nearly $400 for automobile expenses. Mississippi State said that it may impose penalties on itself, but did not clarify what they may be.
