(Betting Express) - The National League West-leading
Arizona Diamondbacks hope that a trip home will be just what they need, as the slumping club opens a four-game series versus the
Milwaukee Brewers tonight at Chase Field.
The D'Backs will also host the San Diego Padres for three games and are 24-15 in the desert this season. They are surprisingly 2 1/2 games ahead of the Los Angeles Dodgers in the division standings, despite having lost four of their last five and 10 of the last 14 games.
Arizona dropped a 4-3 decision to the Florida Marlins on Sunday in the finale of a three-game set at Dolphin Stadium, with Diamondbacks starter Dan Haren striking out seven over seven innings of one-run ball. However, closer Brandon Lyon gave up three hits and two runs in the bottom of the ninth to absorb the loss.
Stephen Drew hit a two-run homer in a losing effort.
Doug Davis gets the nod for the D'Backs tonight and is 2-3 with a 3.68 earned run average in nine starts this season. Davis is 0-2 in his last six trips to the hill with three straight no-decisions. He last pitched on Tuesday at Boston, allowing three runs in seven frames of a 5-4 loss.
Davis, a left-hander, is 0-1 with a 5.79 earned run average through three career starts against Milwaukee, a team he pitched for from 2003-06.
Milwaukee has lost three of its last four games, including Sunday's 5-0 setback to the Minnesota Twins in the finale of a three-game series at the Metrodome.
Brewers starter Ben Sheets took the loss, giving up five runs on nine hits while striking out seven in seven innings. It was Sheets' first loss since the middle of May and he is now 6-1 in 11 road starts this season.
J.J. Hardy, Corey Hart and Mike Cameron accounted for the Brewers' only hits.
Taking the hill for the Brewers on Monday will be Dave Bush, who is a perfect 4-0 with a 3.55 earned run average in four career starts against the Diamondbacks.
Bush has won two straight starts overall and is 3-2 in his past five outings. He last took the ball on Tuesday in a 4-3 win at Atlanta, when he held the Braves to just one run and four hits over seven frames.
Milwaukee swept a three-game series versus Arizona at Miller Park from June 2-4 this season. The Brewers are 9-2 in their last 11 encounters with Arizona.
