Madison, WI (Betting Express) - Wisconsin's leading rusher Dwayne Smith was charged Wednesday with sexual assault stemming from an incident that occurred Sunday. The 19-year-old Smith, who led the Badgers in rushing last season as a sophomore, was charged along with another man, Anwar L. Jones, in Dane County Circuit Court with second-degree sexual assault with the use of force. In a criminal complaint, a woman alleges she was assaulted by Smith after a party held by members of the football team. Jones and the woman left the party together, and headed to a another apartment. After the two began kissing, the woman said Smith entered the room, threw her down on the bed, and proceeded to rape her while Jones stood by the bedroom door. Upon interrogation, Smith told authorities he had intimate contact with the woman after finding her nude in bed with Jones. Smith was released on bond Monday and is scheduled to appear before a judge for a preliminary hearing on March 4, the first day of spring practice. However, as per school policy, the tailback was suspended from the team pending a resolution of the case. Smith's attorney said there will be an appeal to the university. If it upholds the appeal, Smith could be able to practice with the team until the charges are resolved.
