St. Petersburg, FL (Betting Express) - Tampa Bay Rays pitcher Troy Percival left Wednesday's game against the Texas Rangers after apparently injuring himself on a pitch in the ninth inning. Percival had been experiencing soreness in his left hamstring recently and was expected to undergo an MRI exam following Wednesday's contest. The closer retired Milton Bradley to begin the inning then allowed a single to David Murphy. But on his third strike pitch to Brandon Boggs, Percival fell to the front of the mound seemingly in pain. He stood up under his own power, but was unable to finish the game after throwing a warmup pitch with the Rays trainer observing nearby. In 22 relief appearances this season, Percival has struck out 21 batters in 21 1/3 innings and converted 14 of 16 save opportunities with a 2.95 ERA. The 13- year veteran signed a two-year contract with the Rays on November 30, 2007.
