Hempstead, NY (Betting Express) - The New York Jets acquired three-time Pro Bowl defensive tackle Kris Jenkins from the Carolina Panthers in exchange for undisclosed draft picks Friday. Jenkins, 28, played in all 16 games for the Panthers last season, recording 2 1/2 sacks and 52 tackles. He fell out of favor with the coaching staff in Carolina last year after missing offseason workouts and being overweight. Jenkins, who was selected in the second round of the 2001 NFL Draft by the Panthers, has 290 tackles and 20 1/2 sacks over his seven-year career. "Kris is a productive player who is stout at the point of attack and has the ability to rush the passer," said Jets head coach Eric Mangini. Jenkins has started 79-of-85 games and was a Pro Bowl choice after the 2002, 2003 and 2006 seasons. "I am thankful for my experiences in Carolina and am looking forward to working with my new teammates and coaches in New York," said Jenkins. The Jets also announced the signing of defensive tackle Sione Pouha to a contract extension. He established career highs with 16 games played and 32 tackles last season.
