(Betting Express) - On paper, Denver looks like a team that should be battling for one of the top spots in the Western Conference playoffs. Instead, the Nuggets are simply trying to qualify for the postseason.
Denver does own a solid 34-23 record and is just 2 1/2 games behind the first place Utah Jazz in the Northwest Division standings. However, if the season ended the Nuggets would be headed for an early vacation. They are one-half game in back of the Golden State Warriors for the eighth and final berth in the West.
All-Star guard Allen Iverson leads the Nuggets in scoring (26.7 ppg) and assists (7.3 apg), while center Marcus Camby is averaging a club-high 14.1 assists per game. Carmelo Anthony, who was also an All-Star this year, has posted 25.9 points and 7.3 rebounds per contest.
The Nuggets will play 12 of their final 25 contests at home. They will face the Jazz on March 8th and April 12th at EnergySolutions Arena. Five of their remaining contests are against Eastern Conference opponents.
Denver tries to win back-to-back games as they welcome the Los Angeles Clippers on Friday to the Pepsi Center. It is the third meeting of the campaign between the squads. The teams split the first two contests.
The Nuggets fresh off an offensive explosion. On Wednesday, Iverson collected 31 points on 13-of-18 shooting as the Nuggets pummeled the Seattle SuperSonics, 138-96, at KeyArena.
Kenyon Martin added 23 points on 11-of-14 shooting and Anthony posted 16 points for the Nuggets, who snapped a three-game losing streak. Camby registered 12 points, 14 rebounds and five blocks, while Anthony Carter added 12 points and 12 assists for Denver, which shot a franchise-best 67 percent.
Linas Kleiza and J.R. Smith chipped in 15 points apiece for the Nuggets, who set the league high mark for points in a game this season.
The Nuggets are 22-7 at home this season. They will visit Tracy McGrady and the Houston Rockets Sunday at the Toyota Center.
Denver has scored over 100 points in 11 of its last 13 games. The Nuggets are 0-2 during that span when they did not reach the century mark and 8-3 when they went over the 100-point mark.
Iverson is averaging 28.4 points and 7.2 assists since the All-Star break. He has logged as least 43 minutes in four of the contests and 35 in the other game.
