Philadelphia, PA (Betting Express) - The Philadelphia Phillies hired former Cincinnati Reds manager Bob Boone as a special assignment scout, the club announced on Wednesday.

Boone, who was a catcher on Philadelphia's 1980 World Series championship team, was a seven-time Gold Glove winner and a four-time All-Star in his 19- year career.

The father of Seattle's Brett Boone and New York Yankees' Aaron Boone, managed Kansas City from 1995-97 and Cincinnati from 2000 until he was fired in mid- July. Boone's all-time record is 371-444 with no winning seasons as a manager.
