Milwaukee Brewers Team Report - July 31 ===
(Betting Express) - Two teams playing for pride at this point in the season finish up their four-game set this afternoon, when the Milwaukee Brewers battle the New York Mets at Shea Stadium.
Milwaukee lost a 2-0 decision to the Mets and lefthander Al Leiter on Wednesday. The Brewers' advantage in the series was sliced to 2-1.
Milwaukee starter Wes Obermueller (0-2) took the loss, surrendering two runs - one earned - on just three hits over six frames. He fanned five and walked two for the Brewers, who had their franchise-best four-game winning streak at Shea snapped.
For the first time in 56 games, the Brewers failed to get an extra-base hit. Keith Ginter went 2-for-4 in the loss for Milwaukee. Eric Young struck out twice Wednesday, marking only his second multi-strikeout game of the season.
Milwaukee will go with 26-year-old righthander Matt Kinney on the hill today. Kinney is winless (0-2) over his last five starts, including a forgettable outing versus Colorado last week. The hurler was hammered for six hits and five runs over only 2 2/3 innings of action, while walking four and fanning three.
Kinney has split a pair of starts against the Mets this season while amassing a 6.00 ERA. For his career, Kinney has registered a 1-2 mark with a 5.51 ERA against New York.
Milwaukee has won five of the eight matchups this season after losing five of six a season ago. The Brewers have also won four of five matchups in Flushing. However, Milwaukee is 14-31 against the Mets all-time, including 7-17 at Shea Stadium.
David Manning, called-up from Triple-A Indianapolis to replace injured left- hander Glendon Rusch in the rotation, is expected to join the team Thursday.
