=== New York Mets Team Report - July 31 ===

(Betting Express) - Two teams playing for pride at this point in the season finish up their four-game set this afternoon, when the Milwaukee Brewers battle the New York Mets at Shea Stadium.

New York has a chance to gain a series split with the Brewers after tallying a 2-0 win on Wednesday. The Mets halted their four-game slide and won four just the second time in eight games. New York is just 3-11 since the All-Star hiatus.

Al Leiter allowed just five hits over seven scoreless innings in the win on Wednesday. Leiter (10-5) struck out six and walked four for New York in the winning effort.

David Weathers came in to relieve Leiter in the eighth inning and turned the Brewers down in order, fanning a pair of batters along the way. He stayed in for the ninth and struck out two more to earn his second save.

Jason Phillips went 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles in the winning effort. Cliff Floyd and Timo Perez each registered a RBI in the contest.

The Mets will send young righthander Aaron Heilman to the mound. Heilman has lost two of his last three starts, including a defeat to Cincinnati last week. The 24-year-old was tagged for eight hits and six runs over 5 2/3 innings against the Reds, while fanning five and walking two.

Heilman will be facing the Brewers for the first time in his career.

Milwaukee has won five of the eight matchups this season after losing five of six a season ago. The Brewers have also won four of five matchups in Flushing. However, Milwaukee is 14-31 against the Mets all-time, including 7-17 at Shea Stadium.

Vance Wilson hasn't hit a homer since June 24 against Florida.
