Los Angeles, CA (Betting Express) - It appears as though the Los Angeles
Dodgers will soon part ways with outfielder Andruw Jones.
According to the Los Angeles Times, Jones has agreed to deferred payments on
the $22 million the Dodgers still owe him in exchange for a trade or release
before spring training.
The deal would cut some $12 million off the Dodgers' payroll for 2009, which
leads to speculation that some of that money can be used to resume pursuit of
free-agent outfielder Manny Ramirez.
Jones signed a two-year deal with the Dodgers last offseason, then struggled
in his first year with the club.
While battling a knee injury that eventually required surgery, Jones batted
just .158 in 75 games with three homers and 14 runs batted in. He struck out
76 times in only 209 at-bats.
The native of Curacao was a five-time All-Star and a 10-time Gold Glove winner
during his 12 years with the Atlanta Braves.
