Cincinnati, OH (Betting Express) - The Chicago Cubs will begin their season without pitcher Kerry Wood, who was placed on the 15-day disabled list on Sunday with right shoulder tendinitis. It has been a tough spring for Wood, who bruised his chest and also strained his triceps, as he went 1-1 with a 12.60 earned-run average in five relief appearances. Woods has suffered from a variety of injuries over the last three seasons and has appeared in just 47 games. Over eight seasons in the majors, all with the Cubs, Wood has a 71-56 record with a 3.68 ERA in 189 games. Also, the Cubs placed pitcher Juan Mateo on the 15-day DL with a right shoulder impingement and optioned outfielder Buck Coats to Triple-A Iowa to round out their 25-man roster. Chicago opens up its season in Cincinnati on Monday.
