Dublin, Ireland (Betting Express) - Just three days before the start of the 2007 Irish Premier League season, Sligo Rovers boss Rob McDonald resigned his post.

The former Newcastle United, PSV and Sporting Lisbon striker replaced Sean Connor at the end of last season.

Leo Tierney, the team's goalkeeping coach and Under-21 coach Dessie Cawley will lead the team on an interim basis until a full-time replacement is found. According to various reports, former Derry City and Finn Harps defender Pascal Vaudequin is the leading candidate for the job.

The club finished in 5th place last season, its first year back in the Premier Division.

Rovers will be on the road against Galway on Friday for their season opener.
