Stars open Western Canada trip in Calgary

Calgary, Alberta (Betting Express) - The Calgary Flames try to put the brakes on a two-game losing streak tonight when they welcome the Dallas Stars to the Saddledome.

Calgary has already dropped decisions to Detroit and Minnesota this week, including Tuesday night's 4-3 overtime loss to the Wild in St. Paul. Chris Drury scored his third goal of the season midway through the third to tie the match, but the Wild's Cliff Ronning converted a power play a mere 1:58 into OT for the game-winner.

Ronning poked home the rebound of a Marian Gaborik shot while Calgary's Martin Gelinas was in the box serving a much-debated hooking penalty. Stephane Yelle and Marc Savard also tallied for the Flames, while Roman Turek stopped 17 shots in the crease.

The Flames finished a three-game road trip with three points (1-1-0-1) and will begin a four-game Saddledome set this evening. The homestand continues Saturday versus St. Louis and also includes visits from Buffalo and Colorado.

Dallas, meanwhile, opens a three-game Western Canadian trek tonight, after snapping a two-game skid with Sunday's 5-2 win over Washington. Rob DiMaio led the way with a pair of goals, each time giving the Stars a two-goal cushion after the Caps had drawn within one. DiMaio scored midway through the first to make it 3-1, and again early in the third to make it 4-2.

Bill Guerin and Darryl Sydor also scored, and Jere Lehtinen added an empty- netter for good measure in the closing minute. Ron Tugnutt made 26 saves subbing for starter Marty Turco, who allowed four goals the previous night versus the Blues.

Guerin's tally was his team-leading fourth of the young season, and first after a three-game drought.

Dallas continues its current trek on Saturday night in Vancouver, before concluding next Wednesday in Edmonton.

Calgary went 2-1-1 against the Stars a season ago, and is 5-2-4 in the last 11 meetings overall. Dallas is, however, 2-0-1 in its last three trips to Cowtown.
