Sacramento, CA (Betting Express) - The Sacramento Monarchs announced on Wednesday that John Whisenant will not coach the team next season so he can focus on his role as general manager.

Whisenant guided Sacramento to the 2005 championship and led the team back to the finals this past season, losing to the Detroit Shock in five games.

In 2005, he was named coach of the year. Last season, Sacramento went 21-13.

The team also announced a search for a new head coach will begin next week.
