DAVIE, Fla. (AP) -The Miami Dolphins have signed guard John Jerry, their third-round selection in this year's draft. The 6-foot-5, 328-pound Jerry played both guard and tackle on the right side of the line at Mississippi during his four years of college. The Dolphins announced the signing Tuesday. The 6-foot-5, 328-pounder was taken 73rd overall out of Ole Miss where he started 46 of 49 games, including 12 as a freshman, at right guard. FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (AP) -Miami Dolphins defensive end Phillip Merling has been formally charged with felony battery against his pregnant girlfriend. The Broward State Attorney's Office filed the charge Friday. The 6-foot-5, 305-pound Merling was arrested May 27 in Weston. When the Broward Sheriff's Office arrested him, they noted that he either knew or should have known the woman was pregnant.
